Black History Month Blog Assignments
For the entire Month, every Monday there will be a new assignment given. There will be two assingments provided, you will have your choice of completing only one of them. US History I:
Slave Song - Choose a slave song which you feel discusses historical problems faced by African-American Slaves living in Antebellum America. Provide the lyrics for this song. Then, in a five paragraph essay state your rationale for choosing this song and how the lyrics indicate/relate to the struggle faced by Slaves. What was the overall mood of the song? Was it created to bring hope to the Slaves or to serve as a way for the Slaves to share stories about their hardships faced? If applicable, explain how the Abolitionist movement addressed these hardships.
OR
Abolitionist Ad - Create an advertisement supporting abolitionist movement. You advertisement could be of many media types.
US History II:
Political Cartoon - Choose a political cartoon from Civil Rights period. Explain the message you believe this cartoon is trying to portray. Then evaluate the cartoon and determine if it is an accurate and appropriate portrayal of this time period.

Social Media - Create a faux “Facebook” or Twitter for a certain Civil Rights Activist. On the page be sure to include; biographical data, a summary of his/her contributions, any notable achievements, personal items (quotes, pictures), as well as a list of individuals this person would have as friends as well as a list of individuals this person would block from seeing his/her page. The easiest way to do this is through Microsoft Publisher.
